Description

THREE COLT STREET E14
1.
4431
TQ 3680
II GV No 80

2.
C1850 built as a corner public house. Three storeys stucco faced with 5 bays, one
blind on upper floors, to Three Colt Street; an inset bowed corner with blind
windows and a 2 bay return to Narrow Street. Ground floor windows and doorways
articulated by coupled Corinthian pilasters rising from plinth and supporting deep
fascia-frieze with projecting box cornice and blocking course carried right round
both parts. Deep frieze below bracketed main box cornice with blocking course having
raised dies and panels, that facing Narrow Street with supporting scrolls. Plain
revealed sash windows alternate with tripartite window, the latter on first floor
framed by Corinthian pilasters with friezes and moulded pediments; 2 similarly framed
but single sash windows to Narrow Street on first floor. Prominent corner site. A
good example of a Mid C19 public house, of classical design, apparently unaltered
(unusual). Important for its group value, in terminating a block of listed
warehouses in Narrow St, and successfully turning the corner.
