Small country house. Early C18 with late C18 and C19 alterations
and additions. Said to be built for Beaumont Parkyns, bought by
the Paget family. Red brick with ashlar dressings and chamfered
ashlar quoins. Rubble plinth. Bell canted hipped slate roof. 2
red brick stacks. Coved cornice decorated with some moulded
human heads. L-plan with later additions. 2 storeys plus
attic, 5 bays. Central doorway with panelled door, bolection
moulded ashlar surround and C19 broken segmental pediment
containing a single coat of arms. Either side are 2 late C18
glazing bar sashes with 3 similar sashes above, all with flush
ashlar quoin surrounds of former windows. In the attic are 2
brick and slate gabled roof dormers each with single glazing bar
Yorkshire sash. To the left is a 2 storey, single bay, late C18
red brick range with lower hipped slate roof and external left
red brick stack and bracketed eaves. Set on a brick plinth and
with first floor ashlar band. Single glazing bar sash on each
floor with flush ashlar quoin surrounds. The garden/south front
of 3 bays with single external red brick stack has a 2 storey bow
with bracketed eaves and set on a plinth, 3 glazing bar sashes on
each floor. To the right, set back, is a low glazing bar sash
with open 3 bay arcaded porch, arches with keystones and impost
bands supported on turned columns with decorative capitals. The
outer bays being narrower. Over is an ashlar balustrade which
continues over the ground floor of the single slightly projecting
bay to the right which is set on an ashlar plinth and has
chamfered ashlar quoins. Single central low glazing bar sash
flanked by single similar narrower sashes. Above are 2 glazing
bar sashes. That on the left with ashlar quoins. The attic has
3 dormers as the main front. Attached to the right and set back
is the C19 conservatory with 7 gabled bays. Interior.4 mid C18
wood and marble decorative fire surrounds. Panelled doors and
reveals to major ground floor rooms, fluted architraves.
Panelled dados. First floor with some panelling to walls from
C18 box-pews. Dining room with egg and dart cornice. Hall with
good early C18 open well staircase with turned balusters.
