This gateway formerly led to Place House, the home of Margaret Roper, daughter
of Sir Thomas More, and the Roper family, C16 red brick archway with crow
stepped gable over containing a window of 3 arched lights (2 now blocked )
with brick mullions and a blocked circular opening above this. Large 4-centre
arch with double wooden doors and brick hoof-mould over.
