Farmhouse. Late C18 (1780 according to the farmer), mid C19 extension.
Flemish bond red brick and rear extension includes burnt headers and some
tile-hung timber-framing at first floor level; brick stacks and chimneyshafts;
peg-tile roof.
Plan: Basically a T-plan house facing north. Main front block has a 2-room
plan, one each side of central entrance hall and main stair. Both rooms have
projecting gable-end stacks. Kitchen in parallel block to rear of right room
with a stack backing onto a rear block at right angles to the main block and
set a little left (west) of centre.
2 storeys with lean-to outshots to rear of the kitchen and in the angle of the
2 wings to rear of the left end giving a square ground plan. Rear wings are
C19 extensions or rebuilds behind the C18 front block.
Exterior: Symmetrical 3-window front of 16-pane sashes under flat brick
arches (the centre first floor window smaller than the others). Central front
doorway contains a part-glazed 6-panel door under a soffit-panelled flat hood
with moulded edges supported on shaped timber brackets. Eaves have brick
dentil cornice. Roof is gable-ended. Rear has C20 casements without glazing
bars. Doorway at the back end of the rear block has a segmental arch over and
contains a part-glazed 6-panel door under a curving hood on consoles.
Interior: Contains plain C18 and C19 carpentry and joinery.
