Chest tomb. Dated 1776 in memory of the Reverend William Johnstone.
Sandstone. Chest tomb is retangular in plan with a thick soffit-chamfered
flat lid. Any plinth is now buried. Sides have fielded panels, 3 on the long
sides and one each end. Inscriptions in Roman serif upper and lower case
lettering with some italics. It is a touching memorial. The lid records the
death of William Johnstone in 1776 and the east end panel records the sad
deaths of 6 of his children in the same year. A John Archer and Hester
Clutterbuck are also recorded but the dates of their deaths are illegible.
