House. Probably late C18 with early C19 additions; the house of the owner of
the nearby paper mill in the C19. Sandstone ashlar front and pebble-dash
rendered returns and rear, with ashlar dressings; roofs of graduated Lakeland
slate. 2 blocks linked by entrance bay. Main block at right has 2 storeys
and 5 bays; left set-back service wing 2 storeys, 2 wide bays; recessed 2-storey
entrance bay. 6-panel double door and patterned fanlight in tooled architrave
under frieze and cornice. Sash windows,most with fine glazing bars, have flat
stone lintels and slightly-projecting first-floor stone sills. Ground floor of
right block has late C19 sashes and one C20 window with similar lintels; ground
floor sill band. First floor band; cyma-moulded gutter cornice. Hipped roofs,
the left lower, over the 2 blocks, the left with ridge chimney and the right
with 2 rear chimneys, all ashlar and corniced.
