OLD GROOMBRIDGE
16/501 Stable approx 15m south west
of Mill House

GV II

Stable. Probably C18 with early C20 addition. Coursed sandstone ashlar with
brick addition. Peg-tile roof.

Plan: L-plan building. The C18 stable faces west south west, say west with
C20 cartshed/garage built in front of its left end.

Exterior: The gable-ended cartshed/garage hides the left end. To right a
doorway with a plain solid timber frame containing a plain old plank door.
Directly above a similar loading hatch doorway rises from eaves level and has
a gabled roof. At the right end a C20 pivoting casement window. Main roof is
gable-ended.

Interior: Plain carpentry detail and a 3-bay roof of tie-beam trusses with
staggered butt purlins.

This old stable is one of the very important group of related buildings which
make up the estate village of Old Groombridge.
