Cemetery office. Circa 1865, with minor C20 alterations. By Paull and Aycliffe, architects, of
Manchester. Evenly coursed, squared rubble gritstone, with ashlar dressings and wall bands,
coped gables, single side wall stack without pots and a Welsh-slated roof covering. 'L' plan, with
service ranges to rear, and entrance tower in the angle of the two principal ranges. Entrance front
with steeply-pitched gable to left, rising from a shallow ashlar plinth. Tall 4-light mullion and
transom window, with cusped heads to lights. 2-light window to first floor beneath steeply
pointed relieving arch. To the right, narrow 3-stage helm entrance tower with arched doorway,
first floor window with ashlar bell canopy above, below a string course. Above, small coupled
lancets, and a clock face in the helm gable apex. Lower 2-storey gable to crosswing to right,
with 3 and 2-light windows. Single-storey service ranges to rear enclose a narrow yard. The
office and the chapel and crematorium (q.v.) may be seen together in the same vista, and are
visually associated.
