Weighing Machine House building C1835; built for the Whitby-Scarborough Railway Co,
engineer Robert Stephenson. Finely cut ashlar with ashlar dressings. Single storey.
Semi-circular plan. North-west front has a large window opening with raised and
curved ashlar surround, the wall is topped by a curved shallow ashlar cornice. Either
side are set back doorways with curved ashlar surrounds and single further doorways
also with curved surrounds set at right angles. The curved rear wall has 2 side
windows and a central rear blocked window. This building is in a ruinous state,
many of the stones lying loose around the site.
