Description

FORRABURY AND NEW ROAD, Boscastle
SX 09 SE MINSTER

1/84
Belmont

GV II
House. 1887. Slate stone rubble with brick dressings. Slate roof with hipped ends.
Brick axial stack.
Built into side of steeply sloping almost sheer bank with single storey elevation to
road and 2-storey elevation on lower side with deep battered base. The single depth
plan is well designed to accommodate the awkward site and to take advantage of the
exceptional views. The entrance in the side wall probably leads directly into a
stair hall with reception room on lower side (right) and service room against bank on
the left.
Two storeys. Front elevation on lower side with battered base and brick segmental
arches to openings. Two storey canted bay projection on front with 24-pane sashes on
ground floor and 20-pane sashes on first.
Interior not inspected.
Forms part of a group of similar houses overlooking a steep-sided combe leading down
to Boscastle Harbour; the other houses are Valley View, Lewarne, Meachard,
Glenfinart, Penrowan and Polqueens (qv).
