This building has the appearance of a lock-up but was actually one of two toll
cottages, of which the other on the north side of the Brighton-Lewes road has
been demolished. Small round C18 building of red brick with cornice, blocking
course and domed roof, now stuccoed. Windows blocked. Illustrated in its
original condition in Horsfield's History of the Environs of Lewes.
