This house is actually separated from Spencer Road by a locked gate, and the
drive of the house is approached from Binstead Road, but the Rate Office
considers the house to be in Spencer Road). The house was originally
the home of the Player and Brigstocke families who developed Ryde in the
early C19. 1830 circa. The original portion consists of two storeys and
semi-basement. Five Windows. Stone set in sharp flints edgewise, with
ashlar quoins. Eaves bracket cornice. The centre bay window, which is
stuccoed, projects with pilasters flanking it, a four light French window
above with iron balcony. Te ground floor window is approached by two
curved flights of steps with handrail to the platform. Other windows
ordinary sash with glazing bars intact. On the North side a three light
curved bay window on ground floor. Porch with fluted columns on the West
or entrance front. Modern wings in harmonious style to the North, West and
South.
