GV II
Barn. Late C16 aisled timber barn reroofed and heightened in early C19. Externally clad in weatherboarding an early C19 brick plinth. Roof originally thatched but covered in corrugated iron sheeting at time of survey. 5 bays. Heavily jowled upright posts with-deeply cut profile on brick or sandstone padstones. The upright posts to one end bay have been shortened. Tie beams have slightly curved tension braces and each aisle bay also has 2 slightly curved tension braces. Roof was originally of queen post construction as peg holes show. In the early C19 the wall plate was heightened and the roof pitch made shallower. Roof now has C19 rafters with ridge piece. Wall plate has fairly substantial frame with some slightly curved tension braces up to junction with C19 heightening. A bay on one side has C20 framing and the south eastern end was entirely missing its wall frame at the time of the survey. Long diagonal struts each side of the centre bay to form open storage bays.
