Statue group. One of a collection of statuary by Sir Henry Cheere purchased
1812 by Samuel Whitbread II. Lead figure group depicting the Rape of
Proserpine, standing on an octagonal Coade stone plinth, the whole
approximately 3 metres high. This is a copy of a work by Girardon in the
grounds of Versailles. (C. Hussey (ed), Southill, A Regency House, London,
1951, p.55).
