House. 1938-9 in Arts and Crafts style similar to work of the architect
Baillie Scott. Built of painted textured brickwork, tile hanging and thatched
roof with 2 brick chimney stacks. The property is angled to take maximum
advantage of the south facing garden front rather in the manner of an
Edwardian 'Butterfly' house. 2 storeys 5 windows, oak windows with leaded
lights. North or entrance front has right side half-hipped gable, the upper
floors tile hung the lower floor painted brick. 1st floor has 5 light tall oak
mullioned window. Ground floor has shorter 5 light mullioned windows. The
gable overhangs on deep wooden brackets. To the left of the gable is a 2
lightoak mullionedwindow and 4 centred arched wooden doorcase with studded oak
door and decorative large hinges. To the left of this is the principal
feature of the north front, a projecting semi circular 2 storey staircase
tower with 8 light mullioned window with leaded lights and stone cills, the 2
centre lights taller. To the left of this is an eyebrow dormer and mullioned
window to ground floor. The south front has painted brick ground floor and
right side gable. 3 of the 1st floor bays are tile hung with a recess
between the 1st and 3rd bay from the left with brackets and wooden balcony, 2
light mullioned windows to 1st floor and French window below. Other windows
are 4 or 5 light mullioned windows on 1st floor and 4 or 5 light mullioned and
transomed casements to ground floor. Gable has two 2-light mullioned windows
to ground floor. Interior not seen but sales particularsrefer to oak joinery
and marble fittings of the period.
