Walls. C15-C18. Coursed ironstone rubble. Circa 1-2 metres high. Part along
Church Lane is of large semi-dressed blocks with pitched rubble coping. Return
from Church Lane to SW corner of Bedehouse has 2 pointed beeboles and blocked
archway on SW face. Wall between the 2 enclosures has doorway with chamfered
4-centred arch. N wall has small blocked rectangular window with splayed
reveals. Part of wall to NE of entrance is of dressed stone with pitched
coping. N walls may incorporate fragments of structure of former bishop's
palace. S enclosure probably garden of palace, with S wall providing access to
Watch Tower. Scheduled Ancient Monument No 180. Under guardianship of English
Heritage.
