House. Rear wing is probably late C15-C16, altered C17 and C20; front wing is a
late C17 addition with later extensions. Coursed limestone rubble with limestone
quoins and window dressings; Collyweston slate roofs with coped gables and ashlar
chimneys. T-plan. Front wing is of 2 storeys and attic, and has 2 bays of
3-light mullion windows. Lower windows have hollow-chamfered mullions; upper
windows are ovolo-moulded. 2 hipped dormers with paired wooden casements. C20
door to left. Flanking chimneys with moulded neckings and cornices. Another bay
slightly set back to left has inserted C19 sash, the rear wall with ovolo-moulded
mullion windows. At left end is an early C19 attached outbuilding, probably a
former granary, with arched passage to rear. Rear wing is of 2 storeys and
originally had 2 1/2 bays. Large chimney has been removed from left end to provide
additional bay. Original bays have 4-light ovolo-moulded mullion windows, most
with casement cornices. Another 3-light window to first floor centre. C20
matching 3-light window inserted to left. Slightly off-centre is a wide board
door in a moulded 2-centred arch with hoodmould. Traces of a similar doorway,
now blocked, have been found opposite in rear wall. Rear wall also has mullion
windows, some C20. Interior has been altered but retains heavy stop-chamfered
spine beam in far bay of rear wing. Roof of rear wing not available for
inspection but may prove of interest.
