Large terraced town house. c.1878-79 by F.P. Cockerell, completed by
G. Aitchison, junior. Similar character to No. 1 but of red brick and
pink sandstone, cut brick and sculpted ornament, slate roof. Ornate
and lively Renaissance and Plateresque detailing. 3 storeys, basement
and dormed mansard. 3 broad bays. Arched and pilastered large porch
projecting to left over flight of steps. 2 storeyed bay window with
large sash lights, the corners of flat arches curved, richly modelled
friezes, cornices etc. Coupled windows to left and right on 1st
floor, that over porch framed in loggia formed by giant console
brackets rising to support 2nd floor balustraded balcony. Elaborated
string courses and entablature, with pierced-work parapets either side
of pedimental central dormer. Balustraded 1st floor balcony.
Elaborated ironwork to area railings and porch gate. Similar rich
eclectic Renaissance decoration to interior and grand staircase with
decorative ironwork balustrade.
