LANGAR CUM BARNSTONE CROPWELL BISHOP ROAD
SK73SW (south side)
5/118 No. 3 Barn Court
1.11.74 formerly listed as
'barn immediately
west of Bottom
House Farmhouse'
GV II
Former barn now house. Early C18 but retaining the roof system and
½-posts of a C16 or C17 structure. Converted into a house in the
1980s. Brick. Pantile roof with gable copings on square kneelers.
Two inserted ridge stacks. Three roof lights on each pitch.
Originally a three-bay structure with full-height, opposing square-
headed cart-entries. The one on the south side is now fully glazed,
with, to the right, 2 large casement windows and to the left two
smaller ones all with segmental head. The cart-entry on the north
side (facing into the courtyard) has been part-blocked giving a smaller
segmental headed doorway now glazed, with 2 small flanking lights.
Ventilation slits on both elevations. Attached to the right side of
the north elevation is a lower range which has been extended on the
west side. This range is part of a range of former cattlesheds which
enclose the farmyard to the north of the house.
Interior: the centre bay is marked by 2 frames arch-braced to ½ posts.
One frame has housings for studding, vertical below the tie-beam and
chevron pattern above. Two purlins to each pitch, arch-braced to the
principal rafters.
