Barns. Dated and inscribed. F.L.B.D. 1840 and A.E. B.D. 1893 (Ballantine
Dykes). Dressed red sandstone under Welsh and greenslate roofs with coped
gables and kneelers. 4 barns adjoining, that to left of higher roof line,
forming overall L-shape. Barn to left has segmental cart entrance with dated
keystone (1840) under segment-headed vents. Centre barn has C20 sliding door,
under loft doorway with flanking cross vents. Right barn has plank door with
dated lintel (1893) and loft doorways. Right-angled barn has blocked central
doorway under reused lintel inscribed Sr J.B. A.B. 1670 and Ballantine arms (Sir
John and Anne Ballantine), with flanking 2-light windows. Between upper-floor
string courses are a loft doorway and slit vents. End doorway has reused lintel
inscribed Sr J.B, L.A.B. 1674. These earlier datestones came from demolished
hall wings or outbuildings. Has G.V. with Crookdake Hall.
