Former entrance lodge,now private dwelling.Circa 1882 by
Martin and Chamberlain for the Borough of Birmingham Lunatic
Asylum Committee of Visitors,with C20 alterations and
additions.Red brick with ashlar dressings,gable stacks with
moulded brickwork,and a plain tiled roof with crested ridges
and terracotta finials.West elevation;2 storeys,4 bays with
advanced gable to right,and entrance in the angle of the 2
ranges,beneath an open porch supported on moulded timber
posts.6-panel door, the upper 4 panels glazed and below a
rectangular overlight.To the left of the doorway,2 ground
floor openings,one tall with an upper sash of 12 lights over
an undivided lower sash and steeply sloping ashlar
cill.Smaller window without glazing bars. Window above doorway
interrupts bracketed eaves.Advanced gable with 2 tall narrow
sashes without glazing bars to ground floor;coupled first
floorsashes to gable centre within gable wall incorporating
slender box framing above moulded terracotta band.Brick
nogging infill to framing.Moulded bargeboards with drop
finial.South elevation with gablet above canted bay window and
with moulded terracotta band returned above.Advanced gable to
garden front with moulded band below eaves brackets,and
chimney breast expressed in gable.Single first floor sash to
left of gable apex.Tall lean-to extends beyond line of
gable.Interior not inspected but likely to contain features of
interest.
