Lodge to country house. 1873 by Alfred Waterhouse for Washington
Jackson. Red brick with stone dressings. Hipped slate roof with paired
brackets to deep eaves and lead rolls to hips and ridge. Brick axial
stacks with moulded stone strings and cornices. PLAN: Cruciform plan
with porch in angle. Italianate style. EXTERIOR: 1 storey 3-bay E
front, with central projecting wing with bowed front and 2-light
round-headed window with twisted colonnet. Similar window on right.
Single-light window on left and stone porch in angle with classical
arch on panelled piers and moulded cornice. Similar windows on the
other elevations. Rusticated stone quoins, plinth and string course
below eaves: INCLUDING garden area wall and gate pier on south side
facing road; low red brick wall with moulded stone coping ramped up
to gateway and terminal piers; the drive entrance pier on right is
much larger and of stone with panelled sides, dentiled cornice and
