15/1A The old Laundry and Kitchen
18.6.59 block at Up Park to the
north east of the house
I
One of the two balancing wings which were built by Sir Matthew Fetherstonhaugh
about 1770 to the north of the house to replace similar balancing wings to the
east which dated from Talman's original construction of the house. They are
connected with the main building by underground passages, which, beneath the roundel
outside the front door, meet a third passage coming from the back door to the north.
The kitchen has not been used as such since Miss Frances Fetherstonhaugh's death
in 1895. Each block is of 2 storeys and 5 windows. Red brick. The 3 centre window
bay project with a pediment over. Hipped slate roof with turret cupolas in the
centre. Sash windows.
