40/41 Jock's Cottage

Cottage, reputed to have been an ale house formerly. C18 in 2 builds. Right
hand part of 1 storey and attics timberframed on deep brick plinth with red
brick infilling. Shingled roof with end brick chimneystack. 1½ storeys 2
windows. C20 casements. Eyebrow dormers. Rear elevation has plank door and
wooden weatherhood. Ground floor room has chamfered spine beam and wooden
bressumer to open fireplace which has a C19 cast iron range. Brick paved
floors. Left hand part is late c18 or early C19. 1 storey and attics in
English bond brickwork with some black brick headers. East elevation has early
C19 leaded light casement to attic on pintle hinges. Ground floor has 2 case-
ments and C20 plank door. South elevation has tile hung gable with casement
and ground floor has 2 casements with leaded lights and 2 doorcases with plank
doors and wooden weatherhoods on brackets. Early C19 outshut to rear.
Interior has cellar and angled open fireplace. This is situated on a drover's
route and is reputed to have been an ale house.
