Parish Church. 1846-7. By W. Evans of Manchester. Rock faced
ashlar with chiselled ashlar dressings; slate roof with coped verges.
4 bay nave, lower 2 bay chancel, south porch, north vestry; angle
buttresses. Early English style. Nave and chancel have lancet
windows under plain hood moulds, triple lancet to east end under
one continuous hood mould and double lancet to west end; gabled
belfry to west gable with open lancet arch housing the bell. Interior:
Pointed chancel arch; nave roof of arch braced collars with king posts
above, double purlins and narrow ridge piece, principals and braces
stand on short beams projecting from wall plate level and supported by
short posts standing on corbels; chancel roof with braced collars and
king post and raking struts above, single purlins and narrow ridge
piece, collar braces springing from corbels. Fittings: C19 stone
font with squat stepped base, octagonal pedestal moulded at bottom and
octagonal bowl with carved trefoil headed blind arcading; C19 wooden
bench pews; 7-sided C19 pulpit entered from the vestry, trefoil head
panels, and nook shaft to each angle; brass eagle lectern; C19
balustraded wooden altar rail with balusters as nook shafts flanking
open pointed arches; stained glass to east window. Stands within a
small churchyard enclosed by rubble walls.
