House, originally known as Adamroyd. Single cell mid C17 with added larger
square house, double-pile-on-plan under single span roof hipped to one end.
Large dressed stone to earliest part, watershot masonry, stone slate roof.
2 storeys. South front retains 2-light double chamfered mullioned window
(lacking mullion) over doorway. Main house has quoins and double chamfered
mullioned windows of 7 lights to each floor to south and 5 lights (lacking some
mullions) to north. Return wall faces west and has 2 bays of 3-light flat faced
mullioned windows to each floor the central light of which was sashed. 2 stacks
to main range, one other to gable of earliest portion. The interior reveals
spine beams supported on iron columns. It would appear the house was partly
demolished in the rebuilding of the C18 leaving one cell of the C17 house which
has a lower roofline. This cell has stone flagged floors to 1st floor and is
believed to have been used as a textile warehouse.
