Barn. Late C18. Brick in English garden wall bond with roof of stone
slate and slate. Cart entrances on each side near centre have segmental
arches. Above the north-western one, which has an external sliding door,
are the stone arms of the Earl of Derby. To its left are 2 windows with
plain reveals and a doorway between them. A pitching door opens into the
upper storey. At the right are 3 low arched entrances, said to have
housed ducks. Above is an opening with plain reveals. Below the eaves is
a similar opening. Both long walls have 3 rows of breathers. The right-
hand gable wall has external steps to doorways on 2 levels. This end of
the building was used as a granary. Interior: main part of barn of 4
bays. Roof trusses, of hardwood, have tie-beams and raking struts and are
supported on brick pillars.
