TL 85 NW WHEPSTEAD STRAIGHT ROAD

House, formerly farmhouse; late C16, altered early C17. 3-cell lobby-entrancee
plan; 2 storeys. Timber-framed, and rough-cast rendered. Pantiled roof with
C17 axial chimney of red brick. Mainly C19 small-pane casements. 4-panelled
glazed entrance door. The hall and parlour block built together, mid or late
C16, with good clasped-purlin roof, originally hipped. Doorway evidence shows
an original third, service, cell, demolished and rebuilt lower in C17. Chimney
inserted to serve hall and parlour in C17. The roof over the service end
rebuilt higher C18 or C19.
