5/9 War Memorial Well-house

GV II

Well-house (well now sealed), c1919, at expense of Aldersey Hall
Estate tenants. Tall sandstone plinth, oak-framed walls, Westmorland
green slate roof. T-shaped with gables to front and each end.
Stopped ovolo chamfers to posts and beams. Covered well at centre;
cast iron pump (probably late C19) left; oak seats on sandstone
supports to each side. Built as a memorial to Captain Hugh and 2nd
Lieut.Mark Aldersey, killed in action in France, 10 March 1918 and 1
November 1917.
