Former theatre, now cinema. 1885 by Worley and Saunders, entirely rebuilt
internally and converted to cinema use in 1934 by Nicholas and Dixon-Spain.
Stucco faced, felted roofs. Eclectic classicism. 3 storeyed building on
triangular site (lst floor with mezzanine). Symmetrical elevations with
9-window wide front to Circus and 11-window front to Shaftesbury Avenue
both with central pedimented pavilions. Main entrance in podium of central
pavilion to Circus with 2 storey giant engaged Corinthian column portico
above. Ground floor arcaded between pilasters supporting brackets to 1st
floor balustered balcony. 1st floor tall arcades, with mezzanine oculi in
lunettes, supported on engaged slender Corinthian columns and dosserets.
2nd or attic floor with square windows above heavy moulded sill band.
Infill treatment of porticoes a variant on the above. Great Windmill
Street facade a plainer interpretation of the other two.
