Offices. c1870-80. Portland stone faced, slate roof. Late Italianate
classicism similar to Nos 38 and 39 q.v. which it adjoins. 4 storeys with tall
ground floor on basement. 5 windows wide. Ground floor, with central entrance,
has pair of windows with mullion-pier to right, left hand pair altered, all
framed by plain Doric pilasters and entablature. Eared architrave sashes to
upper floors, those on lst floor pedimented, those on 2nd floor with swept
cornices. String courses and crowning entablature with bracketed cornice and
blocking course. Ornamental cast iron balconettes to 1st floor. Heavy cast iron
area railings.
