Formerly a railway station on the Mid-Sussex Line. 1867. A symmetrical composition
with an unusual use of slatted wood on a brick base. One storey. Hipped slate roof
with brick chimneystacks. The centre part projects and has 6 sashes with glazing
bars intact set in moulded wooden architraves, the cills supported on wooden console
brackets. Wooden bracket eaves cornice to the whole. Friezes at top and bottom of
alternately slanted panels. Angle pilasters surmounted by simple wooden capitals.
Central doorcase with rectangular fanlight. Left wing has 4 sashes. Right wing has
2 doors set above the slatted panels at the base and probably used for storage.
Interior of booking hall and waiting room unaltered.
