GV II
House, maybe 2 cottages formerly. Late C17 or C18, renovated circa 1970. Plastered
cob on stone rubble footings; stone rubble or cob stacks topped with C19 and C20
brick; thatch roof.
Plan: the house faces south. The main block has a 3-room-and-through-passage plan.
The left (west) room has a gable-end stack. It was probably the kitchen originally.
Next to it is the passage, then the parlour with an axial stack backing onto a small
unheated room at the right end which is now used as a kitchen. This end room might
be an addition. There is a 1-room plan rear block each end. Since no interior
inspection was available at the time of this survey details of the layout and the
historic development of the house are not known. 2 storeys with secondary rear
outshot between the rear wings.
Exterior: irregular 6-window front of C20 casements. Those on the first floor
include a rectangular pane leaded glass effect and those on the ground floor have
glazing bars and includes 2 curving bay windows. The passage front doorway is left
of centre and it contains a late C19 part-glazed panelled door behind a contemporary
thatch-roofed porch with cusped arch and trellis sides. The main roof is gable-
ended to left and is hipped to right.
Interior: was not available for inspection at the time of this survey but is said
to contain early carpentry detail.
