Manor house. Probably C15 origins, mainly of date RE/RH/1591, C17 and C18.
Squared coursed and regular coursed limestone with Collyweston slate roof.
Irregular cruciform plan. 2 storeys and attic. Main front of 4-window range.
2-window range to left of 2- and 3-light stone mullion windows to first floor
and 4-light. similar window to ground floor. Gabled cross wing breaks forward to
right with a 2-window range of C19 sash windows set in C18 plain stone
architraves with keyblocks. Central C20 ribbed door has C17 moulded stone
surround with 4-centre head. Ashlar gable parapets with finial to crosswing.
Ashlar stacks with moulded cornice to ridges and central medieval stack with
multiple gabled outlet. Date in spandrels of doorway. Wing attached to right
angle to right of cross wing is lower range with first floor cross casement in
gable and leaded casement to cellar below; both under wood lintels. Elevations
to right of this range have one cross casement each to ground and first floors,
also under wood lintels. 2 C18 roof dormers, one with semi-circular pediment,
the other with triangular; both with leaded casements. Rear elevation has
central door with C17 moulded stone surround with 4-centred head. Interior:
kitchen to left of entrance has remains of open fireplace with bressumer.
Drawing room to right of entrance has partial C18 fielded panelling. Staircase
has: late C17/early C18 turned balustrade to landing and mid C18 panelled
balustrade to stair. First floor landing has remains of C17 panelling in door
and an adjacent wall. Bedroom above kitchen has C17 fireplace surround with
4-centred head.
