House, part now unoccupied. Mid-late C17, refenestrated and with wing added
mid C18, mid-C20 alteration. Coursed rubble, hammer-dressed stone to C18 wing,
stone slate roofs. Original house: 3-cell plan with continuous rear outshut
with added wing projecting from 1st cell. L-shaped. 2 storeys.
From the left: gable of wing has ashlar stack. 2nd cell has lower eaves level
and window with monolithic lintel 4-pane sash in flush-wood architrave with
casement window above. To left, at junction with wing, disturbed masonry and
part of door jamb altered with window inserted. Above is oval window blocked
with C18 handmade bricks. 3rd cell, has doorway with wooden surround and sash
window above. C20 brick ridge stack at junction with wing. Large external
stack to right gable with quoined angles, shouldered offsets and C18 brick top.
Rear: 2nd and 3rd cells each have doorway to left of window, that to 2nd cell
has monolithic lintel and is opposite former doorway at front. Low cat-slide
roof with hip to right at junction with wing. Left return (wing) has a 3-bay
rendered facade with central doorway and windows with false voussoirs.
Interior: original house: stop-chamfered spine beams of large scantling.
Out shut has cellar with flat ceiling. 5-bay roof has roof trusses with tall
king posts and single angle struts. Wing has fish-bone king-post roof.
At one period was an inn.
Original house unoccupied and in a dilapidated condition at time of resurvey, 1985.
