Commercial palazzo on corner with Maddox Street. 1906 by William Flockhart for
J J Duveen. Facades completely faced in cast Doulton ceramic "stone", ornately
modelled in Italianate style designed with shop on ground floor and display windows to
first floor. Five storeys and set back attic storey. Three bays to New Bond Street,
one bay rounded corner and 5 bay return to Maddox Street. Original 2 storey shop front
to both elevations with decorated bronze framework to plate glass windows. Enriched
modillion cornice above first floor. Entrance to upper floors at right end of Maddox
Street front with open Baroque segmental pediment to doorway with oeil-de-boeuf above.
Second and third floors very elaborately treated with rounded corners to the window
heads. Each bay articulated by composite columns to second and third floors and
Corinthian to fourth floor; main bracketed cornice above fourth floor. Prominent
corner site.
