Purpose built shop and flats over. 1886 by James Trant Smith. Buff terracotta, slate
roof. Lively eclectic exercise in Queen Anne and Flemish styles. Four storeys and
attic. Three bays. Ground floor has original poulterer's shop front with attached
pedestalled columns framing narrow-arched outer entrances and central broad elliptical
arched display window; entablature above with projecting cornices. Flat arched
mullioned casement and sash windows to first and second floors, segmental arched to
third floor, the bays articulated by vestigial orders of pilasters with enriched panels
to outer ones. Central pilastered attic with swept buttresses forms an ornate
pediment-capped gable. Flank elevation of brick with thin piers defining chimney
breast and carried up into prominent stack. Part of the 1880s -90s rebuilding of
Mount Street for the Grosvenor Estate.
