GV II*
Barn and cowhouse. Probably C18. Rubble, stone slate roof. Four-bay barn
with an extra bay for cow house to front and another loft bay set to rear at
right angles linking to farmhouse (qv). Two ledged C18 doors to cow house,
the left one split horizontally like stable door, loft door above, entrance
to barn through full-height doors in centre of the range. Rear gable end
has ledged door and 4-light window with 3 diamond-section oak mullions. Cat-
slide extension to front of bay immediately left of high doors to barn.
Interior: trusses have 3 purlins and raking struts from ties to principal
rafters; rubble cross-wall between cowhouse and barn infills the unstrutted
open truss above, which contains a pitching eye. Rear of barn returns to
cover lobby separating it from side entrance to farmhouse (qv). Catslide
extension covers 2 ventilation slits to left of threshing floor and has roof
supported by half-truss with raking strut. An excellent farm group.
