Combined lodge and chapel of rest. Built in 1861 by Richard Sheppard, a local architect and
engineer, small 1970s SW extension. Gothic style. Red brick (from Coales brickworks in
Chicheley) with sandstone dressings and steeply pitched slate roofs with courses of plain and
hexagonal slates. T-shaped on plan , with the chapel forming the main arm of the T and the
lodge the cross bar. The principal feature is the spire over the porch which fits into the
intersection of the two arms of the T. One to two storeys. Irregular fenestration. South front
has triple arched window to right, arched doorcase then two storey projecting gable with
arched windows and C20 door to left in projection. North front has projecting two storey
gable to right and projecting two storey porch to left with arched window over arched
doorcase and spire with lucarnes and gilded weathervane with date. West gable has oculus with
cinquefoil. East gable has large arched window with trefil above. Interior of chapel reported to
have arched braces on stone corbels with collars and principal rafters. Ceramic tiled floor with
decorative margin and quatrefoil centre feature.
