Block of offices and shops. c.1907 by F.E. Williams. Portland stone
ashlar with channelled pulvinated coursing to podium and smooth channelling
above, slate roof. Busy classical elevation with some Baroque details. 5
storeys and 2 tiers of dormers in roof. Symmetrical 6-window wide main
range with slightly advanced one-window entrance bays flanking and 2-window
extension to right. Podium ground floor with mezzanine has recessed
archivolt arched flanking doorways that of No. 11D with carved keystone;
mid to later C.20 shop fronts otherwise - all beneath dentil corniced
entablature. Upper floors have architraved sash windows with pediments on
2nd floor, the 6-window range with 3rd and 4th floor windows in archivolt
arched recesses flanked by Ionic pilasters carrying main bracketed
entablature; lower tier of attic windows to this range inserted in
tripartite arrangement in the parapet. The flanking entrance bays (and the
right hand extension) have swags to aprons of 3rd floor windows and above
entablature. 2 storeyed attics with open pedimented bay and crowning domes
surmounted by urns. Cast iron ornate balconettes to 2nd floor.
