Well-head and parapet wall. 'Restored and embellished 1885' by Mrs Somerset
d'Arcy Irvine. Wide hexagonal stone well head. Parapet wall to NE about 5 feet
high has tablet inscribed with illegible extract from 'Paradise Lost' and details
of restoration. Believed by Mrs Somerset d'Arcy Irvine to mark the spot where
Milton sat to write Paradise Lost. The setting with flanking yew trees and box
shrubs is planned and romantic.
