Manor House. Early - mid C17 altered late C17 and again mid-late C19; modernised.
Rubble with Cotswold stone roof and coped verges. 3 groups of chimneys with large
square shafts in group 2, 3 and 3 shafts. Entrance Front: 2 storeys, 5 bays, mullion
windows of 2 and 4 lights with drips; left hand bay 6-lights with king mullion and
transoms. Central gable to attic with 3-light mullion window with drip. Below this
a projecting 2 storey porch in ashlar with gable and ball-finials, string over 1st
floor returned as drip to window on left; Tuscan columns on panelled bases support
segemental pediment broken for strapwork cartouche with blind shield; strapwork
in spandrels of arched doorway; tudor arched inner door. To rear: irregular - 2
storeys and attics and 3 storeys. 3 hipped dormers. Mullion and transom windows.
Large probably C19 extension to left of 2 storeys and 3 bays, moulded on ground
floor possibility for farm implements originally, now sun-room. Interior: Vaulted
cellar. Hall has moulded stone doorway with urn stops. Stairs of mid C17 date
with large turned balusters - reset. 1st floor west room has magnificent early
mid C17 fireplace with imbricated hood supported on enriched brackets carried by
herm shafts with strapwork; enriched cornice with affronted sphinxes; panelled
plaster ceiling with grapes etc in garlands and fleur de lys and flat bosses in
panels.
