Corner block of shops and chambers. c.1855-60 by Charles Gray. Patent cement render,
slate roof. Quadrant corner design with eclectic richly modelled Italianate details.
4 storeys, 9 windows wide, arranged as shallow breaks of 3 and 2 windows flanking
4-window corner. Ground floor with architraved doors and windows, one to each unit and
with shop front to No. 20 Tavistock Street, all framed by broad pilaster-piers with
ornate floral caps below entablature with bracketed cornice. 1st and 2nd floors have
sash windows, framed by pilaster strips with consoles to cornices, set in panels
defined by channelled pilaster strips. Bracketed cornice with polychrome tile
metopes to frieze over 2nd floor. Attic storey has eared architrave sashes separated
by squat coupled pilasters supporting large, dentil-enriched consoles to deep, projecting
crowning cornice and pierced-work parapet with capped dies.
