Malton Methodist Church

GV II*

Methodist church. 1811. Pink and cream mottled brick in
Flemish bond at front, and English bond at sides and rear;
stone plinth and steps; dressings of orange-red gauged brick
or stone; hipped pantile roof. 2-storey 5-bay front, the 3
centre bays pedimented and breaking forward slightly. 3 steps
up to central doorcase of engaged Tuscan columns, plain frieze
and moulded dentil cornice; tall double doors with grooved and
moulded panels, 2 glazed, beneath semicircular traceried
fanlight. Similar, smaller, doors on each side, beneath tall,
round-headed Y-traceried fanlights in round-arched recesses.
Outer bays contain round-headed windows with painted stone
sills, similarly recessed. First floor windows repeat this
arrangement in centre bays, but with blind outer bays. All
windows are Y-traceried and arch dressings are of gauged
brick. Raised first-floor band, and raised sillband to centre
bay windows. Flat eaves band across pediment, formed by
moulded eaves cornice to outer bays rising over centre bays.
Plain coped parapet over outer bays. Scrolled datestone in
pediment is defaced. Left return: 2 round-headed Y-traceried
windows to both storeys. Right return: 2 similar windows in
upper storey only.
