Inn, now house. Late C16; remodelled and eaves raised in late C17; mid C18 rear
extension. Coursed limestone rubble; gabled stone slate roof, with concrete
tiles to rear; end stacks of stone finished in brick; C18 brick ridge stack to
rear. L-plan with rear right wing. 2 storeys; 2-window range. Timber lintels and
first-floor flat stone arches over C20 windows. Rear wing: of 2 storeys with
flat stone arches over early C19 six-panelled door with overlight and over C20
windows; C19 outshut to rear, with blocked arch to beer cellar. Interior: room
to right has plain C18 beam and mid C18 stone fireplace; room to left has late
C16 pyramid-stopped chamfered beam, stop-chamfered wall beams, and early C19
plank door. Mid C18 straight-cut panels to rear of right room; C18 six-panelled
doors and stone-flag floors to rear, and cased beam in rear rood. Formerly the
Red Lion Inn. Mid C18 extension and alterations probably followed purchase of
inn by John Cox in 1764.
