Bridge Cottages

Terrace of 3 cottages. Circa 1840 with late Cl9 additions at rear. Local
limestone rubble. Steeply pitched slate roof with gables ends; scantle
slates at rear. Rendered axial and gable end chimney stacks the 2 axial
stacks each has 2 later red brick diagonally set shafts.
Plan: row of 3 cottages; the end cottages (nos 1 and 3) are each 2 room
single depth plan with services in rear outshuts; the centre cottage (No 2)
is 2 rooms deep, the front room in projection and the services in a later
addition at the rear.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Symmetrical 2:1:2 window range, the centre in a
gabled projection. first floor windows right and left are in small gables;
all the gables have slated verges. the 3 ground floor windows and the
centre first floor window have 3 lights, the 4 first floor windows left and
right are 2-lights; all are original ovolo moulded wooden mullion windows
containing casements with glazing bars, in deeply chamfered openings, the
integrally chamfered lintels have masons mitres; some of the windows retain
their simple hoodmoulds. 3 doorways, one at each end of the front and the
third on the left hand return of the central projection; with deep
chamfered rendered jambs continuing into the chamfered 4-centred with
wooden lintels; the end doorways have stone voussoirs over; plank door with
cover moulds; the top window is blind.
Catslide roofs over rear outshuts, and 2 storey gabled rear wing at centre
built of stone rubble with yellow brick dressings.
