Pair of attached houses. c1845. Limestone ashlar with ridge
stacks and a slate and pantile hipped roof. Double-depth plan.
Neoclassical style. Each of 2 storeys, attic and basement;
4-window range. A symmetrical front has recessed ends,
pilasters to the centre to a Doric entablature with triglyphs,
and boxed eaves. Semicircular-arched moulded doorways in the
side returns have fanlights and 2-panel doors with roundels.
Tripartite bays to the middle have lattice stone balustrades,
architraves to 6/6-pane sashes on the rest, with blind outer
windows over the stair flights; 2 tall dormers with pediments
break through the entablature and eaves. INTERIOR: No.30,
entrance hall with a winder dogleg stair to the front with
stick balusters and a curtail; a semicircular arch with
panelled soffit to the rear, 6-panel doors, panelled shutters,
marble fireplaces, and cornices; rear basement has large stone
fire surround for a range, and a built-in dresser with bowed
end and turned brackets.
