Office. Later C19, altered. Sandstone ashlar, slate roof.
Narrow rectangular plan at right-angles to street. Free Gothic
style. Two storeys with basement and attic, one-and-a-half
bays; with buttress-pilasters, shafts, 1st-floor oriel,
pierced parapet, steeply-pitched roof and large gabled dormer
with corner pinnacles. The ground floor has a central shaft
terminating in a carved winged lion at the underhang of the
oriel, 2 windows to the left and one to the right divided
equally between basement and ground floor by raked sills (the
first 2 basement windows boarded and the other bricked up),
and to the right a 4-centred arched doorway (also bricked up)
which has a hoodmould with carved stops, and a rectangular
overlight above this. The 1st floor has a wide canted oriel
with moulded corbel, shafts, and 4 arched lights with transoms
and moulded surrounds, a similar transomed 1-light window over
the door, deep cavetto moulded cornices over the outer lights
and a pair of large roundels over the centre lights of the
oriel, each with a small shield in the centre; above these, 2
transomed and cusped lights to the dormer with an oculus
between the heads. Rear and interior not inspected. A visually
striking element in a street of mixed styles.
