Gate piers, gates and boundary wall
to churchyard of Church of St Mary
GV II
Gatepiers, gates and boundary wall. Probably c.1840.
Sandstone. The gatepiers are square in section and approx. 3
metres high, with panelled sides and plain caps with shallow
pyramidal tops. The low boundary wall on the east and south
sides of the churchyard is of 2 courses of large sandstone
blocks with chamfered coping, and has 7 widely spaced piers on
the east side and 5 on the south, all matching the gatepiers.
The gates are ramped and have spear-headed bar railings;
matching railings on the wall survive in the northernmost
section only (the others replaced with C20 railings). Included
for group value.
