Lodge to Birkenhead Park. c1843-1847. By Lewis Hornblower and
John Robertson for Sir Joseph Paxton. Ashlar-faced with Welsh
slate roof. Single storeyed with 2 storey central block. 3
bays, symmetrical about both axes. Recessed entrance with
fluted Doric shafts and plain entablature in central block,
with single-storey bays advanced on each side, the windows
renewed in original openings with shouldered architraves. Side
wall stacks on central range. The lodge is one of a pair with
Norman Lodge East (q.v.) and forms part of the original
development of Birkenhead Park.
